Albert E. D. Ogilvie

July 12, 1904 — January 1, 1753

Albert E. D. Ogilvie, 46, associate professor of biology at Allegheny College, died Saturday, at Spencer Hospital, following a heart attack.

Mr. Ogilvie was a member of the Allegheny College faculty since 1933.  He had been stricken with a heart attack and hospitalized in 1946.

He was named assistant professor at Allegheny in 1940 and associate professor in 1947.

A native of Dundee, Scotland, Mr. Ogilvie came to the US as a child and was raised in Appleton, WI, where he attended public schools.

He was graduated from Lawrence College at Appleton in 1925 and received his master of arts degree from Columbia University in 1927.  Prior to attending Lawrence College, Mr. Ogilvie studied at St. Andrews Medical College in Scotland and at the Sorbonne in Paris.  He later returned to St. Andrews and the Sorbonne in Paris.  He later returned to St. Andrews and the Sorbonne for advanced work.

He studied at Chicago Medical College in summers of 1928 through 1930 and at Columbia University in 1932-33, 1936 and 1941.  He attended University of Edinburgh in Scotland in the summer of 1933.

Mr. Ogilvie started his teaching career at Drury College, Springfield, MO in 1927 as an instructor in anatomy and chemistry.  He taught zoology at Lawrence from 1928 to 1932.

At Allegheny, Dr. Ogilvie was head resident advisor at Caflisch Hall, freshman men's dormitory, member of the dean's committee and member of the advisory committee for premedical students.

He is survived by two half-brothers, William Ogilvie and Alex Ogilvie, both of Appleton and two half-sisters, Mrs. Joan Oswald of Appleton and Mrs. Louis Rusch of San Antonio, TX.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Highland Park Cemetery, Cleveland, OH.
