Alexander Sleptzoff, 83, of 21219 Bechtold Rd., Saegertown, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.
He was born September 15, 1918 in Kislovosk, Russia, a son of the late Vassily and Olga Baron De Norman Sleptzoff. He married Irene W. Eisen February 23, 1949 and she preceded him in death June 7, 1987.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Waynesburg College and his Master of Arts degree in Education from Edinboro University. He taught French and history at Meadville High School from 1960 to 1967. He then became a professor of Russian and German at Edinboro University where he taught from 1967 to 1985. He retired professor emeritus from Edinboro in 1985. He was a former member and past president of the Cambridge Springs Rotary Club. He had been active in the Crawford County Republican Party.
He was of the Russian Orthodox faith.
Survivors include 3 sons, William Sleptzoff and his wife Paula of Saegertown; Nicholas Sleptzoff and his wife Rose of Lake City; and Alexander Sleptzoff, Jr. and his wife Robin of Baltimore, MD; and 4 grandchildren, Christina, Jeremiah, Katryna, and Natasha Sleptzoff.
Calling hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.
A funeral and committal service will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Hendershot of Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Crossingville officiating.
Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville.
