Alfred A. Wheeling

December 1, 1895 — May 28, 1967

Alfred A. Wheeling, 71, of Meadville, widely known retired Crawford County school teacher and administrator, died Sunday, May 28, 1967, at Meadville City Hospital.

Mr. Wheeling had entered the hospital early last week for treatment of a heart condition.

A native of Deckards Run, Wayne Township, he had been a teacher for school administrator for a total of 40 years, the last 23 years of service as supervising principal of Randolph and Randolph East Mead schools.

Mr. Wheeling was born on December 1, 1895, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Wheeling.  He married the former Louwaive Hollabaugh on February 10, 1922.

He was a veteran of US Army service in World War I, having interrupted his school career soon after it began to join the 80th division.  He served overseas for a year in combat with the 313th Machine Gun Battalion.  He was discharged in 1919 as a sergeant.

For 26 years, he did not miss attendance at a Randolph High School basketball game.  His streak was broken by illness in February 1954.

Mr. Wheeling attended public schools in his native Wayne Township and studied at the old Edinboro Normal School.  He returned there during the 1930s to do special work and also did College and the Pennsylvania State University.

He was a member of Stone Methodist Church.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Peters Cemetery, Canal Township, Venango County.
