Alfred E. (Ted) Carlile, 84, of Meadville, who earned 57 company patents while working at Talon, Inc., died Saturday, May 23, 1987, at Meadville Medical Center following a short illness. Mr. Carlile was born July 2, 1902, in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England, a son of Harry L. and Sarah Hardy Carlile. He married Ruby Skeel. She preceded him in death in 1949. He subsequently married Elizabeth Marlowe. She survives. He studied at Stapleton Boys Public School in England. He studied engineering at Repton in Derbyshire, England, and at Pennsylvania State University, Erie. He worked for General Electric Co., Erie, prior to joining Talon, Inc. in 1925. He retired from Talon, Inc.'s product development department in 1970 as a senior project engineer. He was credited with 57 company patents while at Talon. He also developed equipment and parts for pressure-proof closures on spacesuits while with Talon. He was a member of Christ Church Episcopal. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Harry L. Carlile of Daytona Beach, FL, Dr. Clayton G. Carlile of East Palatka, FL and US Air Force Reserve Col. Bruce E. Carlile of Austin TX; four grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Services were held at Waid Funeral Home. Services Past Services
