Alice Baxter Henderson

Alice Baxter Henderson, 88 of New Vernon Twp, Stoneboro, passed away on October 8, 2019 at UPMC Magee Womens Hospital surrounded by her children. Alice was born in New Vernon Twp on March 3, 1931 to the late Jesse and Hilda (Fisher) Slater. She was a 1949 graduate of Sandy Lake High School. Alice married her beloved husband, J. Arthur Baxter on May 6, 1950, who preceded her in death on November 20, 1996. After several years, she married Charles E. Henderson on September 26, 2002, who also preceded her in death on July 20, 2014. Alice worked the family dairy farm with her husband in New Vernon Twp and farming was a large part of her life. She also drove bus for Lakeview School District for 38 years. Alice was a lifetime member of Clarks Mills United Methodist Church and had been involved in many aspects of the church over her years. She was also involved in the Mercer County agricultural community on many levels. She was a member of the New Vernon Grange, and served as the New Vernon Twp Tax Collector and Auditor. Alice was known for her love of the farming community and for sharing pies, zucchini and banana bread with her family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, knotting quilts, volunteering at her church, traveling, and most of all spending time with her beloved family. Alice is survived by her children, Patty Eagon of Sandy Lake, Gary Baxter and wife Margaret of Athens, GA, and Marlene Stauffer and husband Brook of Barto, PA, step children Don Henderson, Dave Henderson, and Kathy Beckman, grandchildren Richard McComb, Jr., Melinda White, Allison Baxter, Katherine Baxter, Jordan Stauffer, Mary Baxter, and Haley Stauffer, seven step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, siblings Mary Lewis, Joanne Giebner, Keith Slater and wife Patty, and several brother and sister-in-laws. In addition to her husbands and parents, Alice was preceded in death by her son, Duane Baxter. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Black Funeral Home of SANDY LAKE, 3236 S. Main Street, where family and friends are welcome from 2-4 & 6-8 on Friday (10/11/2019). Additional visitation will be from 10-11 am on Saturday (10/12/2019) at the Coolspring Presbyterian Church, 787 Coolspring Church Road, Mercer. A service will follow visitation at 11 am with the Reverend Adam J. Stump, officiating. Interment will take place in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage. Memorials may be made in Alice’s name to the Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, 3813 Hadley Road, Clarks Mills, PA 16144 or the Charity of one’s choice.
