Alice J. (Guenther) Price

Alice Jean Price, 87, of Meadville, passed away of natural causes Saturday, February 20, 2021.

She was born March 11, 1933 in Meadville, a daughter of Frank M. and Loretta F. Kearney Guenther.  She married Dr. Alvin W. Price January 24, 1976 and he preceded her in death November 3, 1986.

She was a graduate of St. Agatha High School and was a member of St. Agatha Church.  She worked in the admissions office at the former Spencer Hospital from 1951-1957 and then as office manager and dental assistant for Dr. Price from 1957-1982. She was a dedicated caregiver to her mother and brother for many years and most recently the loving guardian of her special needs niece, Karen, whom she cherished. Even in her declining health, she sought to make sure that Karen’s needs were always met, if not exceeded.

Alice was an animal lover, especially her feline companions through the years: Tuffy, Punkie and Mittie. They predeceased her but there is no doubt they eagerly awaited their reunion with her at The Rainbow Bridge last Saturday.

She is survived locally by her nieces Karen Sutton, Patricia (Thomas) Peterson, with whom she resided prior to moving to Juniper Village, Kathleen (Carl) Blakeslee and nephew John (Linda) Guenther. She is also survived by numerous additional nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by ten siblings, Earl Guenther, Margaret Osborne, Charles Guenther, Mary Sargent, Geraldine Pomeroy, Frances Green, John Guenther, Rita Sutton, Joan Butcher, and an infant sister, Joyce Ann Guenther.

The family would like to thank the staff of Juniper Village for their dedication and love given to our aunt, especially with the Covid restrictions that made it impossible for many visitors to be with her for most of the past year. Thank you for becoming Alice’s extended family and devoting such wonderful care to her.

Calling hours will be Friday, February 26th from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville with the Scripture Pray service at 7:15 p.m. and Saturday, February 27th from 10-11 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, 353 Pine Street, Meadville.  Masking and social distancing per CDC guidelines will be followed.

Mass of Christian Burial will follow Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Agatha Church, with Fr. Jeffrey Lucas, Celebrant.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
