Alice Weidaw Shilling, 93, formerly of Circle East, Meadville, died Thursday May 24, 2001, at Rolling Fields Nursing Home, Conneautville.
She was born in Phillipsburg, NJ, April 28, 1908, a daughter of John & Elizabeth Eick Young. She was first married to James Brittian, she subsequently married Fred Weidaw, and later married Thurman Shilling, all of whom preceded her in death.
She was a homemaker, mother of ten children, teacher and nurse aid, having first worked for Macy's Department Store of Phillipsburg, NJ and later as a nursery school teacher in Washington, DC. She then worked in the Pediatrics Department of the former Spencer Hospital, Meadville, as a nurse's aide.
She was a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church, a former church deacon, and taught the kindergarten class for 25 years. She had received the Ace for Brace Award from the Crippled Children's Assn., and was a volunteer with the American Red Cross for 49 years.
Survivors include two sons, James Brittain of Etowha, TN and John Brittain of Pittsburgh; two daughters, Joanne Crawford of Flemington, NJ and Joy Link of Meadville; two step-daughters, Grace Eno of Honesdale and Joan Peery of Fresno, CA; twenty-six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also, several nieces, nephews and a daughter-in-law, Evelyn Weidaw of Meadville.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Ruth Lorenzo, Betty Clark and Camilla Harrison; one son, Clarence Weidaw; one sister, Margaret Young and five brothers, John, Mitchell, Albert, Joseph and Paul Young.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
