Allen J. Shuttleworth

October 24, 1945 — March 18, 2004

Allen J. Shuttleworth, 58, of 14216 State Hwy. #198, Meadville died Thursday, March 18, 2004 at home following an illness of over two years.

He was born October 24, 1945 a son of James and Mary Sullivan Shuttleworth.  He married Sharon Higgins June 3, 1967 and she preceded him in death June 23, 1995.  He subsequently married Anne Nelson July 27, 1996 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Bluffton High School, Bluffton, IN and in 1969 he received his BS in Agricultural Education from Purdue University.  He worked in the oil field industry and for the past 10 years he worked as an oil field engineer for Chemtech.  He was a member of Littles Corners United Methodist Church.

In his youth he participated in the rodeo circuit and raced snowmobiles.  As an avid horseman and promoter of the Morgan Horse industry he pursued many avenues which included the following: professional training, the AMHA horseshow circuit with his family qualifying for the World Show, combined driving, building combined driving carriages, camping trips to the Alleghenies as well as elk hunting in New Mexico and promoting the Morgan horse breed.

He was also an avid sportsman promoting the NRA, Cowboy Action Shooting Assoc. as well as participating in many shooting events locally and in New Mexico with friends and family.

His life evolved around agriculture, youth and his family.  His passions for these resulted in receiving the Friend of 4-H award and winning at the state show with his FFA students two years in a row.  His passion for life emanated to all that knew him.  His strongest passions being his family, friends and his belief in eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Survivors, in addition to his wife Anne, include: three sons, Greg Shuttleworth and his wife Sandy of Conneautville, Adam Shuttleworth and his wife Erica of Denver, IA and Matt Shuttleworth and his wife Amy of Gulfport, MS; one daughter, Kim Shay and her husband Dan, Jr. (Boone) of Meadville; his mother, Mary Shuttleworth of Warren, IN; one sister, Betty Garnet and her husband Jessee of West Plains, MO; two brothers, Pat Shuttleworth and his wife Gelana of Warren, IN and Mike Shuttleworth and his wife Rosemary of Hazelwood, MO and three grandchildren, Justin Shay, Shalynn Shuttleworth and Tanner Shay.  He was preceded in death by his father, James Shuttleworth.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Littles Corners United Methodist Church, State Hwy. #198, with the Rev. Lea Guiney, Pastor, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Littles Corners United Methodist Church, 16352 State Hwy. #198, Saegertown, PA 16433 or Hospice of Crawford County, 448 Pine Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
