Alton J. Muckinhoupt, 79, of Meadville, died at City Hospital Tuesday after an illness of two years.
He was born in Cambridge Township, a son of David and Nancy Swift Muckinhoupt, and spent his early life there. He and his late brother, Charles, operated a livery business in Saegertown before moving to Meadville in 1894 where they opened business at Market and Center Streets.
They later operated a garage at the same location. During World War II, he was a property man at the Keystone Ordnance Works. He was an ardent sportsman all of his life.
He was a member of the First Presvyterian Church and Men's Bible Class of the church, the Crawford County Sportsmen's Council, Lodge 408, F and AM, Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 191, NW Commandery, 25, Knights Templar, Erie Consistory and Zem Zem Temple.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Alice M. Burch of Meadville; a niece, Mrs. John Minium of Meadville; three nephews, Nevin A. Biege of Erie, Harry B. Muckinhoupt and Dr. Frederick H. Muckinhoupt of Meadville; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Venango Cemetery.
