Alton James Postance

April 16, 1906 — April 19, 1994

Alton James Postance, 88, was a member of numerous Masonic organizations as well as a local businessman.

He was a member of Masonic Lodge 408 of Meadville; a life member of both Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 19 of Meadville and Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie; a member of Crawford County Shrine Club and Scottish Rite Bodies of Erie; a member of Taylor Hose Co. of Meadville; and a former member and past president of Meadville Lions Club.

He was owner and operator of the former Postance News for 45 years, retiring in 1971.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Postance, of Meadville, died Tuesday, April 19, 1994, at Wesbury United Methodist Community after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Franklin, April 16, 1906, a son of Arthur L. and Daisy Dean Hunter Postance.  He married M. Lenore Smith, May 1, 1929.  She survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Arthur L. (Bud) Postance of Waynesboro; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Martha McConnell and a sister, Dorothy Lewis.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
