Alven Homer Van Slyke, 71, of Greenville, died Monday, March 2, 1998 at Greenville Hospital.
He was born February 7, 1927 in Meadville, a son of the late Homer F. and Louie Munger Van Slyke. He married Mary Esther Corey, December 24, 1944. She survives.
Mr. Van Slyke retired in 1989 as a wood worker at Greenville Wood Products following 20 years of service. He was a township supervisor in Otto Creek Township, Mercer County. He was a member of Harthegig Conservation Club of Fredonia, the National Muzzle Loading Assn., and the National Rifle Assn. He was a former member of Operating Engineers local #66. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a son, Paul H. Van Slyke of Cambridge Springs; a daughter, Mrs. Ernest L. (Lucy) Courson of Meadville; four grandsons, Paul E. (Lynn) Van Slyke of Seneca, Howard L. Van Slyke of Oil City, David B. (Melonie) Courson of Meadville and Dr. Jeffery P. Courson of Canton, OH and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
