Alvin L. Kimple, Jr.

Alvin L. (Pee Wee) Kimple, Jr., 71, of Meadville, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Meadville Medical Center following an unexpected illness.

He was born in Meadville February 25, 1943 a son of Alvin L. and Lorraine Boyersmith Kimple, Sr.  He married Naomi Weniger August 13, 1976 and she survives.

He was a 1962 graduate of Meadville High School where he was a member of Student Council, Key Club, and Beta Hi Y service club where he served as secretary.  He participated and lettered all four years on the track team under the coaching of Orlo Cox and on the football team under the coaching of Anthony Stellato and James DiMaria.

Alvin was a veteran during the Vietnam War serving in the US Army in Germany.  He was hired as a fireman September 5, 1967 on the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad where he was promoted to engineer and subsequently worked for Conrail and CSX railroads, retiring February 25, 2003.

He was a lifetime member of the Meadville Club where he served several terms on the board of governors, member of VFW Post #2006, American Legion Post #111, Meadville Eagles Club, Moose Lodge, Vernon Central, Vernon Volunteer, and West Mead #2 Volunteer Fire Departments.  He was an avid supporter of the Meadville High School football and wrestling programs and formerly coached 7th and 8th grade football.  He enjoyed playing softball, bowling on the Meadville Club bowling league and at the Eagles Club bowling lanes, riding his Harley Davidson Road King, working outdoors and taking care of his lawn, and yearly trips to Florida.  He recently returned from Las Vegas where he Zip Lined across Freemont Street at the age of 71and in 2010 he enjoyed riding his motorcycle to Sturgis, SD with a group of friends.  He was most proud of and truly loved his family.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Naomi of 38 years, include four children, David Kimple and Joy Gemmel of Meadville, Leroy Kimple of Las Vegas, NV, Chrystal Allison and her husband Jeremiah of New Freeport, and Daniel McElhinny and Renea Slater of Meadville; a sister, Judy Kimple of Meadville and three grandchildren, Lynsie Kimple, Lane Allison, and Brendan McElhinny.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
