Andy F. Waid, 84, a patient at Meadville Care Center, formerly of Meadville, a retired Crawford County Sheriff, died Sunday, July 26, 1992, at the care center following a period of declining health.
He was born October 22, 1907, in Franklin a son of the late Andy J. and Nannie McCaughtry Waid. He married Alice Woodin December 18, 1948. She survives.
He was a graduate of Titusville High School and later became a Titusville City Police Officer from 1935 until 1944 before coming to the Meadville area. From 1948 to 1953, he worked as a Meadville City Policeman and as deputy sheriff from 1953 to 1958, when he was elected Crawford County Sheriff in 1958. He retired as county sheriff in 1966. He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, Col. Lewis Walker Lodge 97, Fraternal Order of Police and the Pennsylvania Sheriff's Assn.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include one daughter, Julie Welsh of North East, plus several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Irene DeArment, and two brothers, Samuel and Edward Waid.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
