Anna L. Charlton

May 16, 1875 — August 14, 1959

Mrs. Anna L. Charlton, 84, of Meadville, died at City Hospital Friday, August 14, 1959, following a short illness.

She was born in Meadville, May 16, 1875, a daughter of Aaron A. and Marietta Clinginsmith Van Riper and was a life-long resident here.  She married James S. Charlton, Sr. July 6, 1899.

She was a member of Stone Methodist Church and a member of the Beacon Light Bible Class of the Church School, serving as president for many years.  She was past matron of Golden Crown Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and member of Past Matrons Club of Eastern Star.  She also was a member of White Shrine of Jerusalem and first president of Ladies Auxiliary of Knights Templar.  She also was a member of the Meadville Grange.

Survivors, besides her husband, include four children, Mrs. J. Scott (Marie) Skelly of Monongahela, Mrs. Elizabeth Reed of Beaver, James S., Jr. of Meadville and A. Augustus of Perrysville, OH; a sister, Mrs. M. E. Himes of Dorset, OH; a brother, Augustus Van Riper of Meadville; fourteen grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment at Greendale Cemetery.
