July 15, 1923 — October 19, 2012

Annabelle F. Knight, 89, of Conneaut Lake, died unexpectedly, Friday, October 19, 2012 as the result of an accident.

Annabelle was born July 15, 1923, in Pittsburgh, PA a daughter of William R. and Grace McHendry Frey.  She married Paul Wilson Knight on August 3, 1945 and he preceded her in death in 1964.

After graduating from Langley High School in Pittsburgh in 1941, she attended Pittsburgh Secretarial School.  During World War II, she worked as a secretary at the Koppers Coal Division in Pittsburgh, where she also did work for the Manhattan Project.  Later, she was secretary at the Odd Fellows Home in Meadville.  For 14 years, she worked as secretary at the Crawford County Court House in the Juvenile Probation office, retiring in 1988.

Annabelle vacationed at Conneaut Lake for many years before moving here in 1965.  She loved “The Lake” and often talked about seeing the Big Bands play at Conneaut Lake Park and area hotels during her youth.  She enjoyed reading, gardening and was an avid Pittsburgh Penguins hockey fan – never missing a game.

Her greatest joy was music and she especially loved jazz.  She was a former member of the Allegheny Jazz Society.  In her younger years, she played piano, organ and sang in the choir.  She was a lifetime honorary member of Station #5 Conneaut Lake Park Fire Hall.  She loved her country and was a proud contributor to the Women’s Service Memorial in Washington D.C. in honor of her daughter, Shirley.

She is survived by: a son, Bill Knight and his wife Toni of Conneaut Lake; a granddaughter, Brandy Knight Grinnell and her husband Bruce of Conneaut Lake; a great granddaughter, Madalyn Grace Grinnell whom she loved with all her heart; many close friends, cousins, extended family of Joe and Julie Troxell of Geneva and their children and the “Hubbard Gang.”

In addition to her husband, Paul and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Frey; a daughter, Shirley Knight Worden, who passed away in 1986 and a son-in-law, Raymond Worden.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, Inc., 12422 Conneaut Lake Road, Conneaut Lake.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Dave Brumagin, Assoc. Pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, officiating.
