Anne R. Hotchkiss, 67, of Meadville died Sunday, May 14, 2017 at the Meadville Medical Center.
She was born May 15, 1949 in Allentown, Pennsylvania a daughter of Dr. Thomas James and Mary Kern Ritter. She married David L. Hotchkiss May 27, 1972 and he survives.
She was a 1967 graduate of Allentown Central Catholic High School and she attended Immaculata University in Philadelphia where she studied art. In July of 1975 she and her husband moved to Meadville where they would raise their family.
In addition to being a loving wife and mother, over the years she worked at Allegheny College’s Pelletier Library, Sandy’s Artworks, and the Meadville Peebles Store. She was very active in the community serving as a past President of the former Meadville YWCA where she also swam on the masters’ swim team, taught life-saving classes and toddler tumbling. She was a long-time member of the Meadville Garden Club, Women’s Literary Club, and the Antique Study Club. She adored animals, especially dogs and horses. She also enjoyed playing bridge with two local bridge clubs. She was very artistic, loved gardening and was an excellent baker and cook.
Survivors, in addition to her husband David of 44 years, include: a daughter, Elizabeth Tong and her husband William of Stamford, CT; a son, Samuel Hotchkiss and his wife Erin of New York City; three grandchildren, Eleanor, Penelope and Alexander Tong; a sister, Susan Bamford of Orwigsburg, PA; three brothers, Thomas Ritter of Pottsville, PA, John Ritter of Reading, PA and Matthew Ritter and his wife Tammy of Reading, PA and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Malenka.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville and Thursday from 10-11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty Street, Meadville. The memorial service will follow Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Brian K. Jensen, Pastor, officiating.
