Anthony Demarco

Anthony (Tony) DeMarco, 90, formerly of Meadville, died Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Erie. He was born November 12, 1918 in Meadville, a son of the late Santo and Rosaria DeMarco. He married Margaret Ferguson May 10, 1952 and she preceded him in death November 2, 1980. Tony was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations with Battery A, 401st Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion and was a Purple Heart recipient. He worked as a machinist at Talon for over 40 years, retiring in 1980. He subsequently worked part-time for 18 years at the AFL-CIO building in Meadville. He was a member of the American Legion and former member of the Italian Civic Club and Meadville Club. He enjoyed sports, playing cards, and attending the Meadville Senior Center. He was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church. Survivors include 5 sons, Dr. Anthony D. DeMarco and his wife Lorraine of Erie; Walter S. DeMarco of Ocean City, NJ; Dennis M. DeMarco and his wife Mary of Conneaut Lake; Keith M. DeMarco and his fianc Jennifer Peterson of Meadville; and Timothy B. DeMarco of Meadville; 2 daughters, Ethel J. Drda and her husband Michael of Mercer and Carol M. Schaffer and her husband Bradley of Grove City; a sister, Madeline DeMarco of Erie; 13 grandchildren; and one niece. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Joseph and Samuel DeMarco. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Scripture Prayer Service at 5:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Grace Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville with Fr. Richard J. Toohey as Celebrant. Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
