Araminta May McGarey Slingluff, 89, of Saegertown, PA died Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Meadville Medical Center.
She was born in Blooming Valley, January 12, 1919 a daughter of Frank A. and Helen E. Dewey Webster. She married Fred D. McGarey June 1, 1941 and he died April 25, 1961. She subsequently married Rev. Claude A. Slingluff April 4, 1970 and he preceded her in death December 23, 1986.
She was a self-employed Notary Public and Tax Consultant. Previously she worked at the Park Way Diner, Steere Dairy, Concord Pharmacy of N.E. and G.T.I. of Saegertown.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church and its M.C.R. Sunday school class. At the church she served on the Diaconate Board, the auditing, budget and floral committees, plus various offices in her Sunday school class. She was a graduate of Meadville High School.
Survivors, include: a sister, June Smith of Meadville; a step-daughter, Ielene Bowersox and her husband Dorcy of Guys Mills; three step-sons, Alton Slingluff of St. Petersburg, FL, Donald Slingluff of Phoenix, AZ and Joe Slingluff of Guys Mills; 31 step grandchildren, 26 step great grandchildren and 3 step great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Harney McGarey; a sister, Louise Helen Webster; a brother, Dewey Webster; two step-sons and a step-daughter.
Calling hour will be Friday from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Walton, Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will be in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
