Arbutus E. Ortman

December 23, 1898 — June 22, 1965

Mrs. Arbutus E. Ortmann, 66, wife of L. T. Ortmann, of Meadville, died at City Hospital Tuesday morning June 22, 1965, after a long illness.

A graduate of Conneaut Lake High School, she taught in Vernon and Union Township Schools three years prior to her marriage to Ortmann May 20, 1920.

Mrs. Ortmann was a member of Grace Methodist Church and for over 20 years was treasurer of the Woman's Society for Christian Service.  She was a member of the Philathea Class of the Church School, the Meadville Women's Club and its garden division, the Ladies Advisory Committee of City Hospital, the Meadville YWCA and its finance committee, and the Rota Literary Club.

She conducted the last independent fund drive for the YWCA.

Mrs. Ortmann was born at Hamburg in Mercer County, December 23, 1898, a daughter of Arthur Eugene and Mary Elizabeth Abrams Smith.

Surviving, besides her husband, are three sisters, Mrs. Berry Clark of Jensen Beach, FL, Mrs. J. W. (Hazel) Dewey of Phoenix, AZ and Mrs. Simeon (Gladys) Rumbaugh of Erie; three brothers, Orlan E. Smith of Bryte, CA, Glenn A. Smith of Westchester, and T. Larry Costello of San Francisco and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
