Arthur A. Petersen, 93, formerly of Erie, and a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville since 1997 died there Thursday, September 29, 2005, following a period of declining health.
He was born in Erie, August 3, 1912, a son of the late George and Anna Fales Petersen. He married Dorothy Meyer, May 2, 1942, and she preceded him in death July 18, 2004.
He was employed at Erie Press Systems, retiring in 1977, as foreman in the tool room, after 35 years of service. Previously he worked as a young man at the former Lawrence Hotel in Erie.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Erie, and an over sixty year member of Tyrian Masonic Lodge #362, Erie.
He enjoyed gardening, working outdoors, helping his neighbors, and especially spending time with his family.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Petersen Waid and her husband Robert of Meadville; three grandsons, Robert S. Waid of Meadville, Todd A. Waid and his Wife, Wendi and their twin children Ava and Charlie of Meadville, and Ryan P. Waid and his wife Kathleen and their daughter Maya of Harrisonburg, VA, nieces and nephews, Leroy Hanson and his wife Eleanor of Edinboro, Harry “Pete” Petersen and his wife Audrey, of Mims, FL, David Roth and his wife Christine of Erie, Gwen Woznicki and her husband Richard of Erie, Lindalee Sullivan and her husband Richard of Lake Forest, CA and Sue Meyer of Mercer Island, WA.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard George Petersen; a sister, Helen Roth, and two brothers, Harry and George Petersen.
Calling hours will be Friday from 4-7 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Additional calling will be Saturday from 9-10 a.m. in McCracken Chapel of Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, with the funeral service to follow at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ellen Rezek, Chaplain, officiating.
Burial will be in Erie Cemetery, Saturday at 12 noon, with the Rev. Dr. Steven Marsh, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church of the Covenant , officiating.
The family suggests memorials be made to Wesbury United Methodist Community, 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335, or Hospice of Crawford County, 448 Pine St., Meadville, PA 16335.
