Arthur D. Thayer, 84, of Meadville, died Friday, August 13, 1976, at Spencer Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born at Atlantic, November 20, 1891, youngest of eleven children of Charles F. and Lois Irons Thayer. He first married Jennie Hazen of Hartstown, June 1, 1918. She died in 1959. He then married Katherine Whitman of Utica April 5, 1962.
Mr. Thayer was a bookkeeper and public accountant, retiring in 1964, having worked for the former Erie Railroad, the former Spirella Corset Co., the former Phoenix Iron Works and for the former Keystone View Co. He also operated a Pontiac dealership in the early 1930s. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a veteran of World War I, having served with the Naval Air Corps. He attended East Fallowfield High School and graduated from Meadville Commercial College in 1912.
Survivors include his widow; two sons, Richard Thayer, O.D. of Mars and Dr. Arthur H. Thayer of Cincinnati; two step-daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Virginia) Simpson and Mrs. Janet Bheighley, both of Meadville; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Rocky Glen Cemetery.
