Arthur H. Allen, Sr.

July 22, 1930 — February 24, 2011

Arthur H. Allen, Sr., 80, of Meadville, died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born July 22, 1930 in Youngstown, OH, a son of Floyd and Arley Mae Kelly Allen.  He married Frieda Koch November 10, 1950.

Arthur attended Townville public schools and was a Veteran of the Korean War in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1948 to 1952, in part as a Navy Seal.  He was a journeyman electrician and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 712, Beaver.  Later, he was self-employed as an electrical contractor for several years as owner and operator of A-#1 Electric Company.

Arthur enjoyed raising and training Morgan horses and was a member of the Penn-Ohio Morgan Horse Association.  He was very proud of having the horse that was crowned Grand Champion at the 1975 Crawford County Fair.  He also was active with his hands, building and maintaining things and he especially loved his family.

He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Frieda of 60 years, include six children, Marlene Cross and her husband Bobby of Charlotte, NC, Robert Allen and his wife Lori of Clymer, NY, Eileen Johnston of Saegertown, Elizabeth Lang of Meadville, Arthur H. Allen, Jr. and his wife Paula of Mercer, and Ashley Allen of Pittsburgh; four grandsons, Christopher Johnston and his wife Jessica of Meadville, Jonathon Cooper of Durham, NC, and Taylor and Connor Lang of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Eve DeBaise and Barbara Gable and a brother, Frederick Allen.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville where the memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m.
