Arthur J. Geigel, II, 83, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Viltalia Living Center, North Olmstead, OH.

He was born December 5, 1938 in Columbus, OH, a son of Arthur J. and Ardyth Adell Kern Geigel.  He married Mary Gay Wellington March 10, 1979 and she preceded him in death February 25, 2016.

Art was a 1961 graduate of Hiram College, Hiram, OH with a B.A. in History, receiving departmental honors.  He served in the U.S. Navy, in part during the Vietnam War era, from 1961 to 1965.  Art’s ship was one of the first to evacuate dependents from Guantanamo Bay during the Cuban Blockade.

Art was an English teacher at Aurora High School, Aurora, OH for 35 years.  He enjoyed writing poetry and taking trips to Ireland.

Survivors include a son, Arthur J. Geigel, III (Kristen) of Olmstead Township, OH; a granddaughter, Charlotte; two sisters, Merrily Secura (Ray) of Orwell, OH and Gaye Geigel of Marietta, GA; two brothers, Gary Geigel (Lori) of Gulf Breeze, FL and Byron Geigel of Island Pond, VT; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert Geigel.

Private services will be at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

Art will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Gay in Greendale Cemetery.
