Arthur J. Smallenberger, 82, of Conneaut Lake, a former business owner and county civil defense director, died Wednesday, July 14, 1993, at Meadville Medical Center following a brief illness.
He was born in Meadville, November 9, 1910, a son of William F. Kathryn Wagner Smallenberger. He married Marian Lawrence, April 24, 1937. She preceded him in death April 11, 1982.
He owned and operated the former Brite-Spot Dairy Bar in Kerrtown for 32 years. He retired in 1978 as civil defense director of Crawford County after 14 years of service. Following he retirement, he worked part-time at Bill's Radio and TV. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #408, Solomon Royal Arch Chapter 191, NW Commandery No. 25, all of Meadville; the PA State Police of Crawford and Erie Counties; and Presque Isle Travelers Club. He was a founding member of the Meadville Chapter of Order of Demolay. He assisted in the operation to the sound system for the Crawford County Fair for many years.
Survivors include a daughter, Leanna Parsons of Conneaut Lake, three grandchildren and a niece and nephew.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
