Arthur L. Riemann

November 9, 1892 — January 1, 1753

Arthur L. Riemann, 65, retired Erie Railroad man and outstanding Christian layman, died at his home in Meadville, early yesterday following a heart attack.

Riemann retired in November, 1957, after 47 years, in the railroad's valuation department and held the post of assistant engineer at time of his retirement.

A member of First Baptist Church of Meadville, he was on the board of deacons and for many years taught the Make Christ Real Bible Class of the church.

He was a licensed lay preacher in the Baptist Church and helped organize the local Christian Business Men's Committee, serving a long time as its president.

He also took part in organizing the Lake Erie Bible Conference of which he was a director and vice president.  He was active in the Gideon Society and vice chairman of the Meadville Salvation Army advisory board.

He was a member of Meadville Management Club and served on various committees for the annual National Assn. of Foremen conferences held at Allegheny College.

He also was active in Community Chest campaigns.

Born in Germany, he came to the United States as an infant with his parents, the late Frantz and Elizabeth Riemann.

Surviving are his widow, the former Sarah Stevenson; two daughters, Mrs. H. Carpenter Jr. of Erie, and Miss Gertrude Helen Riemann of Meadville; a grandson, James Carpenter; five brothers, Frank, Alfonso O., both of Meadville; the Rev. Walter of Philadelphia, Carl of Detroit, MI and Harold of North Bennington, VT; three sisters, Mrs. Francis Appenrodt of Meadville, Mrs. Elizabeth Paul, now if Africa and Mrs. Frieda Fox of Meadville and several nieces and nephews.

A twin brother, Hans died in August 1954.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
