Arthur M. Kroger, 60, superintendent of the Erie-Lackawanna freight car repair shop here, died suddenly at Spencer Hospital, Meadville, Monday afternoon, July 24, 1961.
Death was attributed to a heart attack suffered during the night Sunday.
A veteran of 42 years of railroad service with the Erie and the Erie-Lackawanna, Mr. Kroger had been superintendent to the big new shop since February 28, 1959. Mr. and Mrs. Kroger came to Meadville from Susquehanna in December 1957.
Mr. Kroger had been general foreman in the shop program at Dunmore, PA, when he was transferred to Meadville as an assistant to Claude N. Swartwood. Kroger was promoted after Swartwood's retirement.
In Meadville, Mr. Kroger was a member of Stone Methodist Church, had served as a member of the official board and worked on recent fundraising and every member visitation campaigns.
He was a member of Port Jervis Lodge 328, F and AM; the Erie-Lackawanna Veterans Assn., and of the Benevolent Assn. of Railroad Employees.
He was born at Parkers Glen, NY on October 24, 1900, a son of Marcus and Margaret Middaugh Kroger.
Survivors include the widow, former Maise B. Wood; two daughters, Mrs. Ardyn (Aretha) Humphrey of Lake George, NY and Mrs. Dolores Robinson of Port Jervis; two brothers, Earl M. of Port Jervis and Ralph of Matamores, PA; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Hulbert of Patterson, NJ; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment Pine Grove Cemetery.
