Arthur R. Crump

Arthur R. Crump, 94, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community and formerly of 230 Mt. Hope St., Meadville, died Tuesday, October 22, 2002 at Wesbury.

He was born in Southside, WV February 9, 1908, a son of the late John R. and Sarah E. Jones Crump.  He married Eulah F. McNeal March 6, 1932 and she preceded him in death October 25, 2000.

He was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School, Point Pleasant, WV.  He worked for the G.C. Murphy Company for 47½ years retiring in 1973.  He managed the Meadville store from 1964 to 1973.  He was the Air Raid Warden in Pikeville, KY and in the late 1950s was head civilian of the Flood Reclamation Project in Pikeville when a serious flood nearly destroyed the town.  He was formerly very active with the Boy Scouts of America, Lonesome Pine Council of Pikeville and was a former Scout Master and recipient of the Scout’s Silver Beaver Award.  He was a member of the Phoenix Masonic Lodge #73 of Sistersville, WV; AL HASA Shrine of Ashland, KY; and the Crawford County Shrine Club.  He was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.  He was a former member of the Meadville Kiwanis Club; former board member of Community Health Services of Crawford County; and former advisory board member of the Salvation Army, Camp Lend-A-Hand, and Crawford County Area Vocational-Technical School.  He was an accomplished wood whittler and attended numerous craft shows as a vendor of his creations.

He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, former Sunday School teacher, and former lay leader for many years.

Survivors include a son, Roger M. Crump and his wife Karen J. of Meadville; a daughter, Sarah F. Crump of Chardon, OH; 5 grandchildren, Brian E. Crump, Angela D. Kidner, and Judson R., Charlotte E., and Hayley F. Brown; a great-grandson; 2 sisters, Flossie Clark of Baltimore, MD and Sara K. Noland of Lawton, OK; 2 brothers, Thomas L. Crump of Ashley, OH and Eugene E. Crump of Carnegie, OK; and nieces and nephews.  In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Daisy L. Brown, Martha M. Harvey, and Florence H. Viers; a brother, Charles E. Crump; and an infant brother.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A funeral service will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. William L. Brown, Visitation Pastor of Stone United Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be in Greendale Cemetery.
