Arthur W. Collom, retired Erie Railroad Company employee, died Sunday afternoon at his home in Meadville, after a long illness.
He was born in Hayfield Township, near Coons Corners, February 10, 1872. His childhood was spent in Waterford, Conneautville and Owens Corners. He came to work in Meadville in the early 1890s.
Mr. Collom served as corporal in Pennsylvania National Guard Co. B when he first came to Meadville and in 1893 was a Columbian Guard at the World's Fair in Chicago.
After several other positions, he began work as a fireman for the Erie Railroad Company. He was retired in May, 1945.
He was a member of the following groups: Crawford Lodge, IOOF; Olympas Encampment; Crawford Lodge 234, F and AM; Solomon Royal Arch Chapter; Huron Council 45, New Castle; Timothy Alden Council 60, Meadville; Northwest Commandery 25, Knights of Templar; and the Loyal Lodge 207, B of LF and E. He also numerous leadership position in these various groups.
Surviving are two son, Dr. H. L. Collom of Apponaug, RI and Clyde L. Collom, at home; two daughters, Mrs. James Hocke at home and Mrs. Carrol Crosley of Saegertown; one granddaughter and three grandsons.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
