Autumn P. Merriman

June 25, 1925 — February 13, 2015

Autumn P. Merriman, 89, of Meadville, went home to be with her Lord, Friday, February 13, 2015.

She was born Autumn Pearl Smith, June 25, 1925 in Woodcock Township.  She was the daughter of Nathan Leroy Smith and Mirl Flick Smith.  She graduated from Meadville High School in 1942, then married William Jack Merriman July 15, 1944 and he preceded her in death in 1996.

She worked at Talon Inc., American Breakshoe and Keystone Ordnance in secretarial positions.  She was a cook at several institutions, including Allegheny College, Wesbury United Methodist Community and the Crawford County Jail.  She did some house cleaning and care giving to several families in the Meadville area.  She was a babysitter to many Meadville families.  She retired from Dairy Mart in 1996.

She was an avid reader and instilled that love of reading to her family.  She shared many of her own books with her friends.  She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and feeding and watching her backyard birds.  She spent many happy hours with her cat Buckwheat.  She touched the heart of many people with her kindness and thoughtfulness.  She always had a welcoming spirit accompanied by a beautiful smile.  She was cherished as a good person to all who knew her.  She had a gift of warmth and generosity that she shared with everyone.  Autumn’s long and fruitful life will be remembered for love of family and friends.  Luke 6:45, “A good person produces good things from a treasury of a good heart.”

She is survived by four children, Bonnie Selker and her husband Joseph of Franklin, Linda DeArment and her husband William of Meadville, N. Scott Merriman of Meadville and Judith Rodgers and her husband Gary of Meadville; 9 grandchildren, Eva Selker of Meadville, Joanie Sweeney of Gibsonia, Jonathan DeArment of Meadville, Ryan DeArment of Meadville, Daniel Merriman of Meadville, Jesse Merriman of Meadville, Jeremy Hitchcock of Cambridge Springs, Gary Rodgers, Jr. of Concord, NC and Heather Miller of Cochranton and eighteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Calling hours will be Monday from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.

The funeral will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Temple Jarrell, Pastor of New Beginnings Church of God, officiating.

Interment will be in Venango Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Meadville Public Library, 848 N. Main Street, New Beginnings Church of God, 13226 Leslie Road both of Meadville, PA 16335 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
