Barbara Gail Anthony Knapp

Barbara Gail Anthony Knapp, 87 of Fairview Township, Mercer, passed away on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2018 at the Grove City Medical Center. Barbara was born on November 24, 1930 in Westmoreland County to the late Cyrus Thomas and Helen Mae Richards Anthony. She was a 1948 Graduate of the former Fredonia Institute and then went on to graduate from the Sharon School of Business. She was employed in the office at Sharon Westinghouse for a number of years and then became a homemaker. Barbara married her beloved husband, Elwin Eugene Knapp, on October 16, 1953, he preceded her in death on April 6, 1983. Barbara was an active attendee of the Oak Grove Church, she was involved in the Butterflies Aglow group at the church and raised butterflies for the release on her front porch. She was also active in the Prime Timers at Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, a former member of the Fairview Quilting Club, and in the past was active in the area’s Blanket Ministry. In her earlier years she was a longtime member of the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Delaware Township. She also enjoyed cooking, especially cookies, rolls, and cinnamon rolls, and taking boat rides on the lake. She was always at the McQuiston Center in Sandy Lake and would revolve her schedule around events at the center. The people there were like a second family to her and she loved spending time there. Barbara is survived by her three children, Elaine Amon and husband Tim of Lynchburg, VA, Ron Knapp of Fairview Twp, and Judy Chin and husband Jaimi of New Castle, two granddaughters Jessica and Justina Chin, seven siblings, Janet McChesney, Doris Jean Thorpe and husband Chuck, Charles Anthony and wife Marilyn, Donald Anthony and wife Linda, Karen Shafer, Linda Saxion and husband Donald, and Raymond Anthony and wife Helen, a sister in law Louise Anthony, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings Elizabeth Foltz and husband David, Maxine Lucas and husband Bob, Gerald Anthony, Donna Lee Okin, and Mary Jane Brocklehurst and husband John. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where family and friends are welcome from 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm on Friday, February 16. A Funeral Service will be held at the Oak Grove Church, 16 Oak Grove Road, Mercer, at 11 AM on Saturday, February 17, with an hour of visitation from 10-11 am before the service, with the Reverend Randy Ritchey, church pastor, officiating. Interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery.
