Barbara A. Shay

Barbara A. Shay, age 87, of Meadville, passed away on Friday afternoon, April 18, 2025, in Embassy of Park Avenue.

She was born in Meadville on July 2, 1938, a daughter of Merle “Pete” and Leona (Reed) Casler. On October 12, 1962, Barb married Robert Shay, he survives.

Barb was a 1956 graduate of Randolph High School and 1960 graduate of Edinboro University with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was an Elementary teacher at Maplewood Elementary School for 37 years

She enjoyed traveling to Ireland, England, Hawaii, and Alaska. She also enjoyed camping and winters in Florida, she truly loved children, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary and also volunteered there for many years. She was also a member of the Forest Hills Condo Chicks for 20 years.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years; a son, James Shay and his wife Amy of Beaver, PA; a daughter, Jodi Shay of Erie; a grandson, Christian Shay and his wife Victoria; a granddaughter, Brittany Brumbaugh and her husband Ryan; a great granddaughter, Chloe Shay.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday 4-22-25 at 7:00 PM in ROSE AND WAID FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, INC. 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday 4-22-25 from 4:00 PM until the time of service. Burial will be private in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
