Benjamin Franklin Miller, III, 74, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Nursing Home, died Sunday, October 14, 1990, at the home, after a long illness.
He was born in Meadville May 19, 1916, a son of Benjamin and Ethel Moore Miller. He was married to the former Alice Kruska.
He was co-owner of the former City Coal and Supply Co. in Meadville until 1957. He was a graduate of Meadville High School, a 1938 graduate of Allegheny College, and attained a master's degree from the University of Iowa in 1942. While attending Allegheny College, he was a member of the Allegheny Singers and the Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served as first lieutenant in the Adjunct General's School of the US Army. While in Meadville, he was a member and president of the Kiwanis Club and the Meadville Literary Union, and a member and board president of the Unitarian Church.
After leaving the area, he was employed by the American Dental Assn. in Chicago, IL, the Psychological Corp. in New York City, and the American Assn. of Dental Hygienists in Washington, DC, from which he retired in 1985.
He had a life-long love of music, both classical and jazz, and played saxophone and clarinet in numerous bands.
Survivors include five sons, Thomas B. Miller of Littleton, CO, Jonathan E. (Jed) Miller of Meadville, Benjamin F. Miller, IV, of Julian, CA, David M. Miller of Fort Collins, CO, and Marc A. Miller of Nederland, CO; a brother, Franklin M. Miller of Meadville; a sister, Shirley Ann Wermund of Austin, TX and five grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
