Bernard (Bernie) Graham, 53, of Meadville, died at Meadville Medical Center Thursday, March 30, 1989, after an illness of nine months.
He was born in Guys Mills April 23, 1935, a son of Otto E. and Bertha McDonald Graham. He married Joyce Ford August 31, 1957.
He was a physical education teacher at Meadville Junior High School for 31 years and a 9th grade basketball coach for 20 years, and he participated locally in numerous amateur sporting events over the years. He also was a basketball official and worked part-time as a surveyor with C.E. Stiles Associates. He was a member of Park Congregational Church and was church moderator and a member of the choir.
Mr. Graham was a graduate of Randolph-East Mead High School and a 1958 graduate of Slippery Rock State Teachers College. He also entertained in "Just Friends" as a guitar player and singer. He was a CPR instructor for the American Red Cross, a former Boy Scout leader and had served on the West Mead Township Zoning Hearing Board.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Clinton L. of Cullman, AL, Christopher J. of Arlington, VA, Curtis A. of Meadville, Craig A. of Quincy, MA, and Cyle E. at home; a sister, Mrs. Timothy (Ruth) Deveny of Holly Hill, FL; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy and a brother, Lyle.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Union Cemetery, Guys Mills.
