Bernard L. Peterson

Bernard L. (Pete) Peterson, 81, of Meadville, died Thursday, February 10, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center.

He was born December 31, 1929 in Meadville, a son of Lawrence and Oral Henry Peterson.  He married Floanne Gisewhite July 8, 1950.

Pete was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.  He was employed with the PA Department of Transportation for 40 years, retiring as a sign foreman in 1990.

He was a member of Park Congregational Church, a life member of Meadville Elks Lodge 219 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville, member of Masonic Lodge 234 and the Scottish Rite Bodies, and social member of West Mead Volunteer Fire Department #2.  He enjoyed hunting, gardening and fixing things.

Survivors, in addition to his loving wife Floanne of 60 years, include four children, Steve Peterson of Gettysburg, Jeffrey (Pete) Peterson and his wife Cyndi of Cambridge Springs, Lianne (Kim) Benedict of Kingman, AZ, and Tracy L. Wilcox and her husband Spencer of Guys Mills; eight grandchildren, Chandrah Raleigh, Alanah Peterson, Ryanah Peterson, Leah Peterson, Ronda Benedict, Ryan Benedict, Jennifer L. Mascitti, and Matthew G. Wilcox; five great-grandchildren, Dakota, Damien, Devin, Kyler, and Sierra; a brother, Donald Peterson and his wife Rosalyn of Conneaut Lake; a step-sister, Marie Barton of Saegertown; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville with a Masonic Service at 5 p.m. and an Elks Service at 5:15 p.m.

A funeral service will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Dave Brumagin, Meadville Medical Center Chaplain, officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
