Bertha Dowler Hale

May 26, 1871 — February 8, 1963

Mrs. Bertha Dowler Hale, 91, of Meadville, widow of James L. Hale, died at City Hospital Friday, February 8, 1963, after a week's illness.

Mrs. Hale was an active hobbyist in her later years, painting in oils and watercolors, hooking rugs and upholstering furniture.

A daughter of John A. and Nancy Anna Clark Dowler, she was born May 26, 1871, at Centerville where her father was postmaster.  She and her husband lived most of their married lived in Meadville.

Mrs. Hale was a member of Park Congregational Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Anna M. Mellon of Meadville and Mrs. Ruth Wallace of Forty Fort; a son, J. Mark Hale of Wilmette, IL; an older brother, Willis E. Dowler of Titusville; seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery.
