Bertha M. Shreckengost, 95, a resident of Wesbury United Methodist Community since November 1974, and a former resident of Cambridge Springs, died at Wesbury, Sunday, February 22, 1998, following a period of declining health.
She was born in Franklin, September 20, 1902, a daughter of David J. and Emma E. Adams Lynch. She married Charles B. Shreckengost, June 15, 1922, and he preceded her in death on June 11, 1953.
She was a graduate of Cambridge Springs Public Schools, attended Slippery Rock State Normal School, and received her BS degree in Library Science from Clarion State Teachers College. She was employed at Cambridge Springs High School as Librarian for 19 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Cambridge Springs United Methodist Church, its United Methodist Women, and a long time Sunday School Teacher. She also was a co-operator of the Cambridge Springs Public Library. She was an honorary member of Gam-Sac-Mah Club of Cambridge Springs. Life member of PA State retired Employees Assn., member of Crawford Co. Retired Employees Assn. and a member of the state and local Library Assn.
Survivors include two sons, Raymond C. Shreckengost of Arlington, AV and Robert L. Shreckengost of Meadville; a sister, Adda McDaniel of Cambridge Springs; four granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Judith Blose; three sisters, Carrie Riddle, Amy Cochran and Kathryn Bennett and four brothers, Harry, Arthur, Vance and Lester Lynch.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Cambridge Cemetery.
