Bess Elaine Ewing Hershelman

Bess Elaine Ewing Hershelman, 93, formerly of Meadville and a resident of Forestview Healthcare Center, Erie, died there Monday, September 12, 2005 following a one-year illness.

She was born in Atlantic September 8, 1912, a daughter of the late Roscoe T. and Hazel McEntire Ewing.  She married Charles E. Hershelman September 22, 1934 and he preceded her in death February 24, 1992.

She was a homemaker who worked briefly at Talon and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Meadville.

She was formerly active in many civic endeavors including the Meadville Lioness Club, Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Community Chest and United Way.  She enjoyed playing bridge and was a world traveler.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Louise Corbett and her husband W. Lee of Nashville, TN; 4 grandchildren, C. Douglas Hershelman and his wife Lynn of Sparta, NJ; Jennifer Lee Corbett of New York, NY; Benjamin Cooper Corbett of Nashville, TN; and Susan McEntire Corbett of Alpine, WY; 3 Hershelman great-grandchildren; and 2 nieces and 1 nephew.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, C. Gary Hershelman; a brother, Stanley Ewing; and a sister, Evelyn Reichel.

Calling hours will be Friday from 12.30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, 581 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A memorial service will be Friday at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty St., Meadville with Travis Webster of the church officiating.

Interment will be in Greendale Cemetery.
