Bessie Clyde Foster

March 17, 1873 — January 12, 1959

Miss Bessie Clyde Foster, 85, a member of the Methodist Home for the Aged, died Monday, January 12, 1959, in the home infirmary, following a brief illness.

She was born March 17, 1873, in Sharpsville, a daughter of David and Ellen Foster.  She was a former resident of Greenville and was educated in the schools of Mercer County, receiving her medical training at the Massachusetts State Hospital, Medford Mass.

Miss Foster, a registered nurse, was graduated from Cambridge Hospital, Cambridge, Mass. in 1910 and was registered since that time in Massachusetts.

She was a staff nurse at Stillman Infirmary, Harvard College, Camrbidge.  From December 7, 1917 to September 9, 1919, she served as a reserve in the Army Nurse Corps at the base hospital at Fort Mead, Maryland.

She served at the Post Hospital, Boston, and at Camp Devens, Mass., from September 1929 to September 1934 was a staff nurse in the Boys Dormitory at the Martha Berry Schools, Mt. Berry, Georgia.

From 1935 to 1937, she was in charge of the infirmary at the New England Deaconess Home for Aged Methodist Women, in Concord, Mass.  From 1937 to 1938, she was in charge at the Ida M. Cribbs Home, Conneautville.

After a period of private duty, she was employed by Meadville City Hospital form May 1946 to July 1949, serving in the central supply room.  In 1950, she worked in the Children's Aid Society, Williamson Road, Meadville, from which post she retired to Greenville.  Miss Foster became a member of the Methodist Home, May 7, 1958.

Miss Foster was a member of the First Methodist Church, Greenville, and a memberof the Massachusetts All Nurse Post #296, of the American Legion.

She had no known survivors.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, Sharpsville.
