Bessie Douglas Briggs, 61, wife of Granville P. Briggs of Blooming Valley, died Sunday, September 2, 1945 at Spencer Hospital following a two-weeks illness.
She was born at Woodcockboro and lived for a time at Union City, but most of her life was spent in the Blooming Valley community, where she was graduated from the high school in the Class of 1901.
Mrs. Briggs was a member of the Blooming Valley Methodist Church and the WSCS of the church, the Blooming Valley Grange, and the auxiliary of the Blooming Valley Cemetery Assoc.
Besides her husband, she is survived by the following children, Mrs. Edward Ervin, Mrs. Lovell Hersh, Mrs. Max D. Tinker, Mrs. Floyd C. Loftus, Clarence G. Briggs, Pvt. Ruric D. Briggs, USMCR, Staff Sgt. Granville P. Briggs, Jr., US Army, and C. Richard Briggs. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Sheldon Smith and a brother, Ray Douglas, as well as six grandchildren.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Blooming Valley Cemetery.
