Bessie Idella McConnell, 93 of Worth Twp, Stoneboro, passed away on March 9, 2023 at St. Paul’s in Greenville. Idella was born on June 8, 1929 in Worth Twp to the late Kermit & Velma (Irwin) Bowmer. She was a 1947 graduate of Sandy Lake High School and went on to Grove City College earning her Associates in Secretarial Studies. She worked for many years at Iron City Sash and Door as a salesperson, retiring in 1991. She also served at Worth Twp Wage Tax Collector for many years.
Idella was a member of the Oak Grove Church and was very deep in her faith. She was also a member of the Stoneboro Order of the Eastern Star #110, and the Irwin Missionary Society. She loved spending time outdoors whether it be riding her four-wheeler, being at her cabin in the woods, or gardening her roses and peonies. She took pride in her family farm, enjoying growing peach trees and berry bushes. She was an excellent pie baker and quilter. She enjoyed attending Lakeview and Grove City College athletic events, especially basketball and playing cards and square-dancing in her earlier years. Always having care in her heart for others; Idella enjoyed donating blood and volunteering for Lakeview Area Meals On Wheels. Most of all she loved her family and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Idella married her beloved husband, Jay McConnell on March 20, 1954, he preceded her in death on December 19, 2013.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Peggy (Mike) Lengauer of Stoneboro, Bob (life partner Barb Thomas) McConnell of Orange, VA, and Raymond (Lisa) McConnell of Wooster, OH, grandchildren: Nancy (Doug) Keeling of Hadley, Katie (Joel) McAfoose of Sandy Lake, Amy (Devin) Lewis of Stoneboro, Josh (Alina) McConnell and Justin (Heather) McConnell all of Charlottesville, VA, Jacob (fiancé Gina DeMarco) McConnell and Jordan McConnell all of Wooster, OH, great-grandchildren: Jay, Grant, Addison, Jaxon, Wyatt, Annamarie, Alyssa, Owen, and one more on the way, and brother: James (Betty) Bowmer of Stoneboro.
In addition to her parents and husband, Idella was preceded in death by her sister: Judith Riddle, and two infant brothers.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose And Black Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 99 Franklin Street, Stoneboro, where visitation will be from 2 – 4 pm & 6 – 8 pm on Sunday, March 12 and from 10 – 11 am on Monday, March 13 at the Oak Grove Church, 10 Oak Grove Rd, Mercer. A funeral service will follow at 11 am with the Rev. Randy Ritchey & Rev. Ben Zeigler officiating.
Interment will take place in Prairie Cemetery, Harrisville.
