Bessie P. Hays

April 14, 1876 — January 1, 1962

Mrs. Bessie P. Hays, 85, widow of Louis M. Hays, former Meadville chief of police , died Monday, January 1, 1962, at the Home for the Aged, where she had lived since July 5, 1956.  Chief Hays died in 1938.

She was born at Union City April 14, 1876, a daughter of Charles and Lillian Davis Carle.

Mrs. Hays was a member of Stone Methodist Church and a former member of the Beacon of Light Class of its church school.  She was a charter member of Mead Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Oscar J. (Dorothy) Horn of Meadville; a son, Carle B. Hazen of Port Salerno, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
