Betty B. Ewing, 99, of Meadville, a resident of Rolling Fields since 2014, died there Wednesday, August 5, 2020.
She was born in Jamestown, PA May 30, 1921 a daughter of Samuel G. and Anna MacBroom Burd. She married Fred L. Ewing, M.D. July 31, 1943 and he preceded her in death November 4, 1990.
She was a graduate of Conneaut Lake High School and Meadville Commercial College. She worked as a secretary for the Superintendent at the former Meadville City Hospital and filled in on the switchboard. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a life-long learner, enjoyed nature, cooking, baking and was a member of the Child Guidance Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Carol Deiss (Richard) and Barbara J. Ewing both of Meadville and daughter-in-law Dolores V. Ewing; two grandchildren, James Andrew Ewing (Trina) and Nancy Ewing (Dave Reger); five great grandchildren, Cora, Maireád, Josiah, and Maeve Ewing and Chloë Reger; two nieces Fonda McElhinny and Dr. Jane E. Woods and three nephews Bruce B. Ewing, Tom B. (Joan) Ewing, and Lee B. (Patty Chu) Ewing.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, James N. Ewing and three half sisters, Florence Burd, Thelma Burd and Pauline Fonner; two sisters-in-law Ethel and Ruth Ewing and three brothers-in-law Donald H. (Virginia) Ewing, Raymond J. Ewing, and Orlo A. (Ruth) Ewing.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, August 11th from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, 891 Liberty Street, Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will follow at 11:00 am at the church with the Rev. Dr. Brian K. Jensen, Pastor, officiating. CDC guidelines for masking and social distancing will be followed.
Interment will be in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests memorials be made to Meadville Public Library, 848 N. Main St., Meadville, PA 16335 or First Presbyterian Church, 891 Liberty St. Meadville, PA 16335.
