Betty L. Bourgeois, 86, of Meadville died at home surrounded by her family, Wednesday, February 8, 2012.
She was born in Meadville November 27, 1925 a daughter of Leroy P. and Mildred H. Smith Shorts. She married Paul J. Bourgeois January 23, 1953 and he preceded her in death January 20, 1994.
She worked for a short time years ago at the G.C. Murphy Co. in Meadville and she also cleaned houses in the area but mostly she was a homemaker, raising her family.
She was a member of the Salvation Army, the East Mead Vol. Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the Cootie Club. She also loved bingo and traveling to the casino in Salamanca, NY.
Survivors, include: two sons, Joseph Brown of Union City and Donald E. Bourgeois and his wife Marianne of Meadville; twelve grandchildren, Kayla and Paul Bourgeois, Joe, Bob, Kevin and Chris Brown, Stephanie Hart, Becky Kohler, Wendy Brown, Cassandra Hosack, Melissa Siverd and Tamara Catlin and several great grandchildren nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Paul Brown; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Brown; four brothers, Robert, Junior and Glenn Shorts and an infant brother, Alfred Shorts and two sisters, Oletha Harouff and Louise (Flossie) Powell.
Calling hours will be Friday from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville. The funeral and committal service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Kaufer, Chaplain of Southern Care Hospice, officiating.
Interment will be in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
