Brig. William Lappin, 68, of Meadville, died Wednesday, August 7, 1974, at Spencer Hospital after a long illness.
He was born March 7, 1906, in Greenock, Scotland, a son of John and Janet Liddell Lappin. He came to the US in 1923. He joined the Salvation Army when he was 16 years old and became a soldier in the Warren, OH, Corps where he severed until he entered the School of Officers Training in New York City in 1927. He was commissioned to served most of his officership in the East where 12 years were spent in Atlantic City. He established a ministry on the beaches of Atlantic City and was well-known for that ministry. He retired in 1968 and moved to Meadville from Atlantic City.
In August of 1942, he married Adjutant Agnes Porter who now also is an officer in the Salvation Army.
Survivors include his widow; two daughters, Bonita Baker of Philadelphia and Mrs. Ruby (Wilma) Leopold of Cambridge Springs; two brothers, George and Robert; and one sister, Nettie, all of Greenock, Scotland; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Kensico Salvation Army Cemetery (now, Kensico Cemetery) at Valhalla, NY.
