C. Earl Wade

C. Earl Wade, 86, of Meadville, died Wednesday, July 30, 1980, at United Methodist Nursing Home and Hospital following a one-year illness.

He was born at Frostburg, MD, May 8, 1894, a son of Owen and Dora E. Rice Wade.  He married Naomi M. Lockard in 1921.

He began employment with Swift & Co., Cumberland, MD, in 1917 and then served in the US Army in France during WWI.  He returned to work for Swift & Co. at Brownsville and became assistant manager and then manager at the company's Wheeling, WV, office.  He was transferred to the Meadville office as manager in 1939 and retired from the company in 1959.  Following his retirement, he served several years as bailiff at Crawford County Courthouse.

He was a member of Stone United Methodist Church, Zem Zem Shrine Temple of Erie, Crawford County Shrine Club and the American Association of Retired Persons.  He was an honorary member of West Mead 2 VFD.  He was a member of Wheeling Lodge of F & AM and Scottish Rite Bodies of Wheeling and was a 33rd degree Mason.

He is survived by his wife, a resident of the nursing home; a sister, Mrs. Pearl Minnicks of Frostburg; a brother, Robert C. Wade, Sr., of Cumberland; two nieces and four nephews.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery, Cumberland.
