C. Lewis Boyd

November 15, 1923 — December 21, 2005

C. Lewis Boyd, 82, of Conneaut Lake, died Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at his residence.

He was born in Cochranton November 15, 1923, a son of the late J. Fleming and Maude Jackson Boyd.  He married Catherine R. Engels June 9, 1949 and she survives.

He was a 1942 graduate of Cochranton High School and was a U.S. Army Air Corp. Veteran of World War II, having served with the 508th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company.  He served 32 months of which 15 months were on active duty in the South Pacific Theater of Operations.  He worked in tractor maintenance for the John Oakes Hardware Store, Cochranton for 8 years.  While living in Arizona, he worked in production for the Goodyear Corporation for 12 years.  He worked for the former American Viscose and Avtex companies in Meadville in machine maintenance for 17 years and subsequently retired in 1989 from Universal Cooperative, Goshen, Indiana as a production worker following 3 years of service.

He was a member of Our Lady Queen of the Americas Roman Catholic Church.  He was a member of the 55 Plus Club and “Fogies”, a retired Avtex employees group.  He was known as “Mr. Fix-it” as he could fix anything.  He enjoyed blue grass music, traveling, boating, vegetable gardening, sports of all kind, and particularly time spent with family and especially his grandchildren.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 56 years, include 3 daughters, Caroline Bitting and her husband H. Brian of East Greenville, PA; LuAnn Carter and her husband Peter of Goffstown , NH; and Nancy Miller and her husband Randy of Conneaut Lake; a son Robert P. Boyd of Goshen, Ind.; 5 grandchildren, Shannon Carter, Andrew Bitting, Ensign Nicholas Bitting, Savannah Miller, and Chaney Miller; a brother, Willis Boyd and his wife Betty of Seneca; a sister, Pearl Boyd Fullerton and her husband Paul of Cochranton; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Diane Eleene Boyd and a brother, Willard Boyd.

Calling hours will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Waid-Coleman Funeral Home, 12422 Conneaut Lake Rd., Conneaut Lake with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady Queen of the Americas Roman Catholic Church, 155 S. Ninth St., Conneaut Lake with the Rev. Steve Anderson as Celebrant.

Interment will be in Our Lady Queen of the Americas Cemetery with military honors provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2006, Meadville.
