Carl A. Cornell, 87, a resident of Tandem Health Care of West Palm Beach, FL and formerly of Meadville, died at his residence Tuesday, February 23, 1999, following a period of declining health.
He was born January 7, 1912 in Vernon Township, a son of the late Alfred and Mary Pettibone Cornell. He had first been married to Mazie A. Hunt and second to Laura June Ayers Miles. He married Donna Norris Ayers June 5, 1971. She survives.
He worked as an auto mechanic for several area auto dealerships and also at the former Meadville Malleable Iron Co. He moved to Florida in 1956 and worked first for several Florida area auto dealerships and then operated Cornell & Sons Garage in Lake Worth, FL from where he retired.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Kim Gillette of Linesville, Brandi Cornell of Conneaut Lake, Autumn Hinkle of Lantana, FL and Tona-Lee Carter of Royal Palm Beach, FL; three sons, Robert F. and Michael Cornell, both of Meadville and Daniel Cornell of Lantana, FL; one sister, Helen Schreffer of Meadville; one brother, Fred Cornell of Cochranton; eighteen grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Reginald and Jan Cornell; one brother, Melvin Cornell; and one great-granddaughter, Heaven Leigh Carter.
Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.
Interment was in Kiser Hill Cemetery.
