Carl O. First

October 18, 1890 — January 13, 1913

The retired treasurer of McCrosky Tool Corp., Carl O. First, 66, died Sunday afternoon November 10, at City Hospital after a nine-week illness.

First had been associated with McCrosky for more than 23 years, serving as treasurer since 1944.  He had been assistant treasurer since 1934.  First had lived in Meadville for 59 years.

During his years with the firm, First saw the development and wide acceptance of various types of McCrosky's metal tools.  He also was with the firm during its World War II and Korean War production periods.

First was active in many community affairs.  He was a president of the Meadville Amateur Softball Assn., a member of Cussewago Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Lodge 408, F & AM, Erie Consistory, Zem Zem Temple, Crawford County Shrine Club and Stone Methodist Church.

Born in Old West Vernon Township, he was a son of George W. and Estella Reeder First.  He attended Meadville schools and married Miss Dorothy O. Crouch on January 13, 1913.  She died on February 20, 1957.

He was employed at the Mead Penn Iron Works before he joined McCrosky.

Survivors include a son, Vincent E. of Tonawanda, NY; two daughters, Lillian McCooey (John) of Meadville and Helen Leslie (James) of Bradford Woods; two brothers, Clarence First and Arthur First, both of Meadville.

Services were held at Waid Funeral Home.

Interment was in Greendale Cemetery.
