Carl W. Spaid, 72, formerly of Dickson Road, Meadville and a resident of the Crawford County Care Center since 2009, died there Saturday, January 22, 2011.
He was born in Meadville November 20, 1938 a son of Charles G. and Laura L. Ewing Spaid. He had been married to E. Lorene Reichel and then Cindy Weaver and Cindy preceded him in death.
He retired from N/W Rural Electric Co-Op as manager of Field Services after 35 years of service. He was a member of Cambridge Spring Presbyterian Church and a former church treasurer. He was a 1956 graduate of Saegertown High School, served in the US Army, was a former member of the Cambridge Springs Rotary Club, former Cambridge Springs Mayor and Borough Councilman, former member of Meadville Elks Lodge #219, a member of Cambridge Springs Vol. Fire Dept. and he enjoyed hunting and bowling. To honor his parents, he saw that the small stream that runs through a part of Col. Crawford Park and into Woodcock Creek be named Spaid Run.
Survivors, include: five children, David Spaid and his wife Martha of Cambridge Springs, Renee Terrill and her husband Terry of Cambridge Springs, Laura Klus and her husband Stan of Union City, Scott Spaid and his wife Darla of Cambridge Springs and Gina Brace and her husband Ron of Waterford; a sister, Betty Galford of Meadville; two brothers, Robert E. Spaid and his wife Betty and Merle E. Spaid and his companion Mary all of Meadville; thirteen grandchildren, Kari Beth Spaid, Colton Spaid, Kendall Spaid, Tiffany Price, Tenae Gage, Donald Myers, Ethan Myers, Taryn Spaid, Sierra Spaid, Hunter Spaid, Alexandra Brace, Jackson Brace and Jeb Brace; five great grandchildren, Dakota Price, Karley Price, Celina Price, Cyrus Gage and Gunnar Gage and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral and committal service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Whitmore of Cambridge Springs Presbyterian Church, officiating with military honors provided by Harm Jan Huidekoper VFW Post #2006.
Interment will be in Ewing Cemetery.
The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care their father received from everyone at Aseracare Hospice and the Crawford County Care Center.
