Carlton Schuyler Ross

Carlton Schuyler Ross, “Sky”, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown after a short battle with cancer.  He was 81 years old.

Born in Conneautville on February 21, 1936, he was the son of the late Nelson Carlton Ross and Esther Bauer Ross formerly of Conneaut Lake.

He is survived by his brother Ted Ross and his wife Lynn of Toledo Ohio, and two nieces, his five children, Michael Ross and his wife Helen of Meadville, James Ross and his wife Darlene of Conneaut Lake, Mary Miller(Betsy) and her husband Kevin of Baltimore MD, Douglas Ross and his partner Cheryl of Conneaut Lake, and Susan Shrock and her partner Larry of Conneaut Lake, two step children Darrell Williams and his wife Antje of Seale, Alabama, and Sherrie Henderson and her husband James of Florida.  He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sky spent his early years in Conneautville before moving to Conneaut Lake in his teens.  He was very active in sports, music, and other student activities throughout his high school years.  He was known as an excellent basketball player throughout his junior and senior high school career.  Upon graduation from Conneaut Lake High School in 1955, Sky attended Slippery Rock University for a short time then left to marry his high school sweetheart, Nancy Moyers, in 1957.

Sky enjoyed the outdoors all his life, spending many hours hunting, trapping, and picking fields for Indian artifacts.  He and his business partner, Carl Burkett built, owned, and ran the Indian Museum and Country store near Conneaut Lake Park.  He and Carl filled the museum with artifacts they had both collected through the years.  He was a builder, responsible for constructing many new homes in the Northwestern PA area.

In the late 1970’s Schuyler moved to Hurtsboro, Alabama.  There, with his second wife Carol, he constructed a beautiful house on a large plot of land.  He included a “hunting camp” where he loved hosting friends when they would visit to take advantage of the excellent deer hunting and trapping in the area.  He continued to work in construction while in Alabama.  After Carol’s passing Schuyler spent several more years in Hurtsboro, eventually moving back to Conneaut Lake in 2014.

There will be no calling hours or memorial services.  In lieu of cards or flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
